Acer negundoBoxelder Family: Aceraceae Identification:
Note: A maple native to the eastern United States and typically found along streams and rivers, although quite adaptable to a variety of soil types. This species produces an abundance of viable seed and can become a weed in the landscape. Seedlings sometimes resemble poison ivy. Soft wood and a number of insect and disease pests shorten the life of this species in the south. In northern climates the boxelder may become a handsome specimen. Campus Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, west along canal. |
